Texas Children’s Health Plan and the Houston Department of Health and Human Services educate local families on the dangers of lead poisoning

HOUSTON, TX - (Oct. 4, 2011) - In preparation for national lead poisoning prevention week, Texas Children’s Health Plan and the Houston Department of Health and Human Services (HDHHS) are launching a new campaign targeted at lead screening.

“Get the Lead Out” is aimed at increasing awareness of the dangers posed by childhood lead poisoning. Through this campaign Texas Children’s Health Plan and the HDHHS are working to educate parents about the importance of testing, appropriate ages for lead testing and empowering parents to ask their primary care physician for this test when necessary. | read more |

Dynamo, Texas Children’s Health Plan to host Fútbol Fiesta - First 100 kids receive free tickets to a Houston Dynamo home game

HOUSTON, TX - (September 26, 2011) - Texas Children’s Health Plan and the Houston Dynamo will host their second Fútbol Fiesta of 2011 on Thursday, September 29, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Milby Park, 2001 Central St., Houston 77017. This free event is open to the community.

Dynamo players will attend to greet fans, sign autographs, and more. The first 100 children in attendance will receive a free ticket to an upcoming Dynamo game. Fútbol Fiesta is designed to bring local communities together for soccer-related games and activities. | read more |

Texas Children’s Health Plan awarded contracts for STAR Medicaid and CHIP

HOUSTON, TX - (August 5, 2011) - Texas Children’s Health Plan (TCHP) has been tentatively awarded managed care renewed contracts by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). The contracts are for the STAR Medicaid and CHIP programs. As part of the contract, Texas Children’s Health Plan will also provide CHIP perinate benefits, which include prenatal care for the unborn children of low-income women who do not qualify for Medicaid. | read more |

Program offers free support and health services for first-time moms

HOUSTON, TX - (July 27, 2011) - Pregnant at 22, Brittney Chambers found herself away from home in a new city with minimal support and guidance. Originally, from Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Chambers’ mother and grandmother died when she was a teenager.

For many first time expectant mothers having a baby is a frightening experience. The Nurse Family Partnership in conjunction with Texas Children’s Health Plan (TCHP) helps expectant mothers similar to Chambers improve prenatal care and learn the skills needed to be good parents. | read more |
