Children’s privacy

Protecting the privacy of children is very important to Texas Children’s. Texas Children’s supports the Children’s Online Privacy and Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA). For that reason, we do not collect or maintain information at Texas Children’s Web sites from those who have identified themselves as under 13 years of age.

Social Media

Texas Children’s Health Plan set up our social websites (i.e. Facebook and Instagram) for our members and the public to use. They are positive places where users are treated respectfully and kindly.

Your opinions about our patient care and quality of service matter to us, and can help improve our healthcare and improve our patients’ lives. However, Texas Children’s Health Plan is committed to focused discussions on its website and social media for the limited purpose of Texas Children’s Health Plan values and interests rather than to maintain a public forum.

All comments are monitored, and Texas Children’s Health Plan, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to remove or block commenters, comments, materials or posts when those comments, materials or posts do not promote a civil discussion or comply with Texas Children’s Health Plan’s purpose for maintaining the social media site or:

  • Violate any law, promote the violation of any law, or encourage illegal activity
  • Contain information that may compromise safety or security
  • Appear to be made by a person masquerading as someone else
  • Are seeking to solicit patient health information from Texas Children’s Health Plan patients
  • Are spam
  • Contain profanity, obscene or explicit material
  • Seek to sell or promote a commercial product or service
  • Violate the privacy or security of Protected Health Information (PHI) or other confidential information that is not your own (this includes family, friends, and spouse)
  • Contain unlawful, hateful, threatening, abusive, harassing, libelous material/language or are discriminatory based on race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, marital status, national origin, disability, sexual orientation or political party (determined by the Marketing/Public Relations team) including links to such material
  • Contain copyrighted or plagiarized material belonging to someone else
  • Campaign related material of any kind

We will block accounts immediately if we deem, in our sole discretion, that comments made could be illegal, harmful or dangerous to persons, property, or Texas Children’s Health Plan and its employees. Texas Children’s Health Plan seeks genuine dialogue in alignment with Texas Children’s Health Plan’s purpose for maintaining this social media site, but will not accept comments that aim to inflict harm or damage on other individuals, business, or property.

Texas Children’s Health Plan is not responsible for the information you choose to publish. You should not post personal or medical information on the site. It is not secure and will be viewed by others. Content posted on these social media sites is for informational or educational purposes only. Medical advice can only be provided by a licensed physician. If you have specific questions concerning your own health or medical status, please consult your personal physician.

We work to make sure the content on this site is accurate and up to date. We respect your privacy and you can see our Internet privacy policy in that section of this web page.

Personal information is information that can be used to identify or contact you. Texas Children's collects only the personal information you provide to us in the following ways: 1) When you register as a member of Online Parents’ Connection and/or when you update your member profile and 2) When you access our site and complete mail-to links or forms that are used to contact Texas Children's, such as our Career Opportunities response mechanism. These mail-to links and forms collect information you provide in order for Texas Children’s to deliver requested materials, respond to your questions, or provide related information.

  5. Some information collected is for statistical purposes only. Texas Children's Health Plan performs analyses of user behavior in order to measure customer interest in the various areas of our sites.
  6. We use Google Maps to help you find our buildings and services. Google collects some personal and device information from your browser. Texas Children's Health Plan will make every reasonable effort to protect the personal information that you share with us.
