The Center for Children and Women Opens in Greenspoint

(Houston, TX) – Texas Children's Health Plan announces the opening of The Center for Children and Women, a patient and family-centered medical home for its members. The approximately 50,000 square-foot facility, located in the greater Greenspoint area of Houston, will include pediatricians, advance nurse practitioners, OB/GYNs, certified nurse midwives, optometry, imaging, a laboratory and an onsite pharmacy. Dentistry will also be added to the scope of services in the coming months. The newly created medical home is a primary care provider facility that is designed to address the shortage of primary care medical needs for the Medicaid and CHIP (Children's Health Insurance Program) populations.

"Texas Children's Health Plan is proud to open The Center for Children and Women, an innovative model of comprehensive health care service for our members," stated Texas Children's Health Plan President, Chris Born. "Our objective is to provide a one-stop-shop for our members," he concluded.

The Center for Children and Women is designed to ensure all patients receive proper care by providing extended hours to accommodate the busy schedules of members. Pediatric care will be available 16 hours a day, Monday through Friday, and 10 hours a day on weekends. Obstetric care will be available 12 hours a day, Monday through Friday, and six hours a day on Saturday. Members will also have full support of other services such as behavioral health, social workers, care coordinators, nutritionists and many other services provided by a multidisciplinary team. This health care model creates comprehensive care for the whole well-being of the patient.

"We help guide patients through the process from start to finish," stated Tangula Taylor, director of operations at Texas Children's Health Plan - The Center for Children and Women. "If the patient comes in for a routine medical appointment and it is determined they need to see an optometrist, we schedule the appointment for the same day. Our goal is to make sure the patient walks out with all of their comprehensive needs met."

The Center for Children and Women is revolutionizing the way CHIP and Medicaid patients receive health care. With a mission to achieve healthy communities by improving access, coordinating care and empowering families with a commitment to the highest quality community-based health care, education, advocacy and research, the patient and family-centered medical home will measure its success not by the volume of patients served, but by the quality of care it provides.
