Call to action: Texas Children’s Health Plan (TCHP) would like to inform you that ADD-E-Initiation Phase Prescriber Scorecards will be sent to select providers in the coming weeks. These letters are part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and continuous quality improvement.

What is the ADD-E Measure?

The ADD-E (Follow-Up Care for Children Prescribed ADHD Medication) measure evaluates the percentage of children ages 6–12 who, after being newly prescribed ADHD medication, complete a follow-up visit with a prescribing practitioner within 30 days – the Initiation Phase.

Why This Matters

These review letters provide insight into your performance on the ADD-E measure compared to other providers in the TCHP network. Our goal is to support you in delivering timely, high-quality care, and ensuring appropriate follow-up for children starting ADHD medication.

Recommended Best Practice

To help improve follow-up compliance, TCHP suggests the following approach:

  • Consider starting with a 15-day prescription for newly diagnosed patients.
  • Schedule a telehealth follow-up visit within two weeks.
  • If the follow-up visit confirms the treatment is effective, issue a 30-day prescription going forward.

This approach not only ensures that the child receives proper monitoring but also minimizes the risk of excess stimulant dispensing.

ADD-E Performance Reviews

To continue supporting your work, TCHP is sending Prescriber Scorecard: ADD-E-Initiation Phase letters again soon. This scorecard will:

  • Analyze each prescriber’s compliance with the ADD-E Initiation Phase.
  • Rank providers into quartiles based on follow-up visit completion rates for the prescriptions written under their NPI.
  • Offer personalized insights, peer comparisons, and targeted resources.

Our aim is to empower you with data-driven feedback that enhances adherence, improves treatment outcomes, and enhances patient care.

Please note that individual prescriber rates are not used to determine eligibility to the provider incentive program.
