Transportation UpdateActualización de transporte
Starting December 15, 2025, SafeRide Health will become the new provider for all member rides to doctor appointments and pharmacy visits. After this date, Texas Children’s Health Plan will no longer use MTM for Non Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) services.

Providers should monitor the Texas Children’s Health Plan (TCHP) Provider Portal regularly for alerts and updates associated to the COVID-19 event. TCHP reserves the right to update and/or change this information without prior notice due to the evolving nature of the COVID-19 event.Call to action: In response to the current weather conditions, effective February 15 through February 19, 2021, Texas Children’s Health Plan will reimburse for ambulance transportation of technology dependent children to and from warming shelters in order to ensure continuation of medically necessary care. Use of codes for “Shelter -04” as the place of service will require authorization and will be reviewed for medical necessity on a case-by-case basis. The authorization will be reviewed when submitted on or before February 26, 2021 for dates of service February 15-19, 2021.
Next steps for providers: Medical transportation providers will be reimbursed for medically necessary transportation of technology dependent children to/from shelters during the weather event (February 15-19). Authorization for payment of claims with non-payable place of service (Shelter – 04) are required and will be reviewed for medical necessity when submitted on or before February 26, 2021.
