HHSC Update on Medicaid Autism Services Policy

Date: July 9, 2026

Attention: All Providers

Call to action: Texas Children’s Health Plan (TCHP) would like to inform providers that the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) recently reviewed Texas Medicaid plans' adherence to the clinical prior authorization requirements in the Medicaid Autism Services policy. While the focus of the review was to support program integrity, the prior authorization is also intended to promote coordinated, individualized care planning for each child receiving services.

HHSC has noted that the interdisciplinary team meeting code (procedure code 99366) is historically underutilized and encourages increased use of this service to support holistic care coordination for children receiving autism services.

As a reminder, the interdisciplinary team meeting code (procedure code 99366) may be used for clinician participation in interdisciplinary team meetings that support coordinated care for children and youth age 20 and younger with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who have a prior authorization under the Medicaid Autism Services policy.

  • Must include the child’s licensed behavior analyst (LBA) and at least two additional licensed professionals who are part of the child’s care team (e.g., occupational therapist, licensed psychologist).
  • Interdisciplinary team meetings are not required for access to services but are highly encouraged as a best practice for collaborative, individualized treatment planning.

Additional details regarding interdisciplinary team meetings can be found in the Autism Services Policy in the Texas Medicaid Provider Procedures Manual (TMPPM), Children’s Services Handbook.

Next step for providers: Providers should ensure staff are aware of and consider use of this service when coordinating care for children with ASD.
