Hearing Aid Procedure Codes 92628 and 92631 Billing Updates

Call to action: Texas Children’s Health Plan (TCHP) would like to inform providers that effective August 27, 2026, the Texas Medicaid & Healthcare Partnership (TMHP) will update hearing aid procedure codes 92628 and 92631 to allow billing on the same day as other hearing aid procedure codes.

For dates of service on or after September 1, 2026, TMHP will reimburse claims when:

• Procedure code 92628 is billed on the same day as procedure codes 92631 and 92632.
• Procedure code 92631 is billed on the same day as procedure codes 92628 and 92629.

Texas Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) like TCHP must provide all medically necessary, Medicaid-covered services to Medicaid members who are enrolled in their MCO/TCHP. Administrative procedures, such as prior authorization, precertification, referrals, claims and encounter data filing, may differ from traditional Medicaid (fee-for-service) and from MCO to MCO. Providers should reference a member’s specific MCO/TCHP for information on these items.
