Transportation Update Actualización de transporte

Starting December 15, 2025, SafeRide Health will become the new provider for all member rides to doctor appointments and pharmacy visits. After this date, Texas Children’s Health Plan will no longer use MTM for Non Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) services.

Holiday Assistance Resources

Apply early: Holiday programs often have limited spots, so apply as soon as they become available.

Be prepared: Have all necessary documents ready, such as proof of income, ID, and birth certificates for children.

Contact organizations directly: Some programs are run directly by individual organizations, while others are managed through a central referral system. It is best to contact each organization directly to inquire about their specific services and eligibility requirements.

Greater Grace Houston

Thanksgiving or Christmas. Whether free Christmas presents, a box of groceries or holiday food (turkey, bread, ham, etc.) the charity assists the less fortunate.


BEImpactful
The Houston charity has a holiday "festival", in which kids of all ages can get a free Xmas present. Registration is needed. Email is BEImpactful2021@gmail.com.


Faulk Foundation

The non-profit has an Adopt a Family event for Christmas season. Children from low-income, working poor, or households in poverty can apply. Get free household items at Christmas, personal toiletries, maybe some toys or gifts and other basic needs.


Faith Family Church

They participate in Toys for Tots (see above). Get free Christmas gift or toys, or holiday food boxes. The items are new and unwrapped.


HAAM Social Services

They offer a Community-Wide Empty Stocking Toy Drive. Local children can get help at Christmas, including sneakers, games, books, toys and more. The charity is an an interfaith, faith based organization.


SVDP of Harris County and Houston
Various churches and volunteers are on site. Free birthday or Christmas toys, boxes of food, meals at Christmas or Thanksgiving, and more is offered. There can be books, games, tablets, clothes and many other goods offered. More on assistance from SVDP assistance programs.

West Houston Assistance Ministries (WHAM)

Resources range from a food pantry with holiday food baskets to referrals. Gift giving programs help children, and the homebound or seniors may qualify for a home delivered meal at the key holidays.


Catholic Charities Christmas assistance programs in Houston
Main location is at 2900 Louisiana St, Houston, TX 77006. Call 713-526-4611 or 1-866-649-5862 for information.
Free Christmas help may be offered for income qualified families. Items passed out may be games, toiletries, small jewelry and much more. There may even be aid for immigrants to from the local churches. There are several centers in Harris County, and the churches also help single moms provide holiday for their (kids), immigrants, the elderly and others.


Salvation Army Harris county Free seasonal services
They may be the largest provider of holiday programs, including Adopt a Family in Houston. Seniors can have a meal brought to them, and thousands of children may receive a gift from Angel Tree. There may be toys, clothes, presents, games, free gift certificates and more. They also have hot Thanksgiving turkey dinners, Christmas food boxes, and more. Both children and seniors over the age of 62 in Harris County can register, provided they meet income guidelines. More information on Harris County Salvation Army resources.

Houston and Harris County free Toys for Tots
Register online. Charities partner with the Marine Corps in Houston on this. The program is run by Houston children's charity at 1600 West Loop South, Suite 610 Houston, TX 77027. The main phone number is 713-524-2878.

Houston Fire Department and Holiday Outreach Program
Proof of residency and more is required. Donations allow the government agency to offer gifts for children and infants. The information name is Operation Stocking Stuffer. The key partner church is New Life Christian at 11249 Crown Park Dr, Houston, Texas 77067. Call 832-394-6632 for information on registration process.


My Brother's Keeper Outreach Center

Christmas assistance is for children under the age of 10.


MAM or Memorial Assistance Ministries

Ohayo Thanksgiving (Tyler): Ohayo Sushi in Tyler will host a community Thanksgiving event on November 27, offering a free holiday meal with dishes from Ohayo, El Chino, and Liang's Chinese Restaurant.
