ADD-E Quality Performance Review

Date: May 29, 2025

Attention: Behavioral Health Providers

Call to action: Texas Children’s Health Plan (TCHP) would like to inform you that ADD-E Quality Performance Review letters will be sent to select providers in the coming weeks. These letters are part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and continuous quality improvement.

What is the ADD-E Measure?

The ADD-E (Follow-Up Care for Children Prescribed ADHD Medication) measure evaluates the percentage of children ages 6 –12 who, after being newly prescribed ADHD medication, complete a follow-up visit with a prescribing practitioner within 30 days – the Initiation Phase.

Why This Matters

These review letters offer insights into your performance on the ADD-E measure compared to other providers in the TCHP network. Our goal is to support you in delivering timely, high-quality care to your patients.

Recommended Best Practice

To help improve follow-up compliance, TCHP recommends the following approach:

  • Start with a 15-day prescription for newly diagnosed patients.
  • Schedule a telehealth follow-up visit within two weeks.
  • If the follow-up visit confirms the treatment is effective, issue a 30-day prescription moving forward.

This approach not only ensures that the child receives proper monitoring but also minimizes the risk of excess stimulant dispensing.

Introducing the New ADD-E Performance Reviews

To further support your efforts, TCHP is launching a new ADD-E Quality Performance Review. This scorecard will:

  • Analyze each provider’s compliance with the ADD-E Initiation Phase.
  • Rank providers into quartiles based on follow-up visit completion rates.
  • Offer personalized insights, peer comparisons, and targeted resources.

Our aim is to empower you with data-driven feedback that enhances adherence, improves treatment outcomes, and supports better patient care.
